The selection of business software in Latvia is fairly broad on the one hand, but very limited on the other. So, for instance, business management (ERP) systems range from the very simple, offering only accounting functions (also known as niche systems) to the complex, providing the recording and management of all enterprise business processes in a single program. Each system has its advantages and drawbacks along with functions that they can or cannot provide. Even where several systems offer a single function, the key is in the nuances of their functionality and fit to the business specifics of a particular organization. It should be noted that a business management (ERP) system including all processes is not always required – sometimes, the best solution is a niche system for, e.g., warehouse management, production management, staff management etc.

In cases where a particular ready-made system is chosen which is offered by several suppliers, it is important to keep in mind that every supplier has unique experience and their own customizations (extensions) to the system. For example, one supplier might be specialized in banking, and another – in printing and publishing. This means that each of them will have developed know-how and customizations for their field of specialization.
